How KapX Could Soon Guide Blind Users with Real-Time 3D Sound

We deep into the KapX, an upcoming orientation tool for blind and visually impaired users. Unlike bone conduction headsets, KapX uses air conduction audio with precise 3D sound to indicate safe walking paths, avoiding obstacles in real time. Its onboard camera and compute unit process environmental data locally, ensuring privacy and independence from internet connections.

KapX scans a 10×10 meter area, making four path-planning decisions per second, and can detect and indicate additional features such as stairs, traffic lights, or benches on demand. The device integrates seamlessly with smartphone navigation apps, allowing users to combine turn-by-turn directions with live obstacle avoidance. With around four hours of battery life, a rapid recharge feature, and upcoming indoor navigation and text-reading upgrades, KapX aims to complement, not replace, canes and guide dogs.
