Brava: The Infrared Oven That’s Changing Accessible Cooking

Brava isn’t just a smart oven—it’s a fully accessible, light-powered cooking experience. Learn how Travis and Zac built a kitchen device that works for everyone, including blind users.

Brava’s infrared oven technology uses powerful lamps to cook food fast and evenly—no preheating required. Travis and Zac share how this high-tech appliance can cook multiple foods simultaneously in separate “zones,” guided by software and recipes.

Their accessibility journey began unexpectedly. After hearing stories of older adults and people with disabilities benefiting from Brava, they worked with Lighthouse San Francisco and others to make the mobile app fully VoiceOver and TalkBack accessible. While the initial device setup requires sighted help, ongoing cooking tasks are fully app-driven and accessible.

Brava now offers a community-driven recipe platform and continues developing accessible features based on real user feedback.
