WeWalk Expands WeAssist Service Globally and Enhances SmartCane 2 with AI Features
Jean Marc Feghali of WeWalk has announced a major international expansion of the company’s WeAssist service, alongside significant updates to the WeWalk SmartCane 2. Speaking on Double Tap, Feghali confirmed that WeAssist is now launching across the United States, Canada, Ireland and Australia, with extended service hours and new accessibility-focused features.
WeAssist provides on-demand human assistance via the WeWalk app, allowing users to connect with trained agents for tasks such as reading labels, navigating spaces, or identifying objects. “You simply download the WeWalk app and you can start making calls,” Feghali said, noting that users do not need to own a SmartCane to access the service. Free monthly minutes are included, with additional usage available through paid bundles.
For SmartCane users, WeWalk offers additional free minutes as an incentive. The company has also partnered with retailers to provide specialised assistance, with agents trained both in customer service and accessibility needs. Feghali explained this creates “a highly specific, very user-focused experience.”
Alongside the service expansion, WeWalk introduced updates to its SmartCane 2. These include new voice options, adjustable speech rates, improved obstacle detection, and a “find my cane” feature. A flashlight function can now be combined with audio and vibration alerts to enhance obstacle awareness.
A key development is the integration of Google Gemini into the cane’s Voice Assistant 2.0. Users can now ask contextual questions such as “nearest café” or check device status like battery levels. “It’s no longer just a general purpose voice assistant,” Feghali said, adding that deeper integration allows control of device features through voice.
WeWalk also outlined progress on its AIM (Artificial Intelligence Mobility) platform, designed for orientation and mobility training. The system collects data on cane usage, helping professionals track progress and tailor instruction.
The updates position WeWalk as an increasingly comprehensive mobility platform, combining hardware, AI, and human assistance into a single ecosystem.
The expansion increases access to remote assistance services in multiple regions, offering an alternative to existing platforms. Integration of AI and training tools reflects a broader shift toward data-driven mobility and personalised accessibility support.
