Tapestry App Brings All Your Social Media, Podcasts & More Together
In this episode of Double Tap, Steven Scott and Shaun Preece talk with Gedeon Maheux from The Iconfactory about the launch of Tapestry, a new app designed to consolidate social media, podcasts, RSS feeds, and YouTube channels into one accessible platform. Gedeon explains that Tapestry was born after the shutdown of their previous app, Twitterific, which left users seeking an alternative. “One of the main goals of Tapestry is to be able to have one app where you can follow them wherever they are and digest it in chronological order without any algorithms getting in the way,” he says.
Tapestry offers integration with multiple platforms like Mastodon, BlueSky, Micro.blog, YouTube, and RSS feeds, but cannot access walled gardens like Facebook or X (formerly Twitter). Gedeon highlights the app’s extensibility through APIs that allow developers to create connectors for additional services. “If you can’t connect to it in Tapestry today, that doesn’t mean you can’t tomorrow,” he notes. The app’s Kickstarter campaign exceeded its funding goal, allowing The Iconfactory to enhance the app’s functionality, with plans for future updates based on user feedback.
Steven and Shaun explore the app’s accessibility features, which are rooted in The Iconfactory’s long-standing commitment to accessible design, as seen in Twitterific. Gedeon confirms that Tapestry supports voiceover, dynamic type, and reduced motion settings in iOS, with further accessibility optimizations in version 1.0.1. “Tapestry respects all of the accessibility settings in iOS,” Gedeon assures, encouraging users to download the app despite minor verbosity in the initial release.
The app’s content management system allows users to subscribe to podcasts and YouTube channels directly, import OPML files for RSS feeds, and customize their feeds with muffle rules and content filters. Gedeon also confirms that a native macOS version is in development, with iPad support already available. Tapestry offers a subscription model at $1.99/month, $20/year, or a one-time lifetime purchase for $80. Users can also access a free version with ads.
Tapestry is now available on iOS, with a macOS release expected soon. Learn more at iconfactory.com.
