In this episode of Double Tap, Steven Scott and Shaun Preece talk with Kevin Chao, who recently attended the Vista Center Ignite Accessibility Entrepreneur Pitch Competition in San Jose, California. The event showcased groundbreaking accessibility innovations from 14 entrepreneurs, focusing on solutions for the blind and low vision community.

Kevin shares highlights, including Lighthouse Tech‘s LTH01 glasses, designed with sonar and LiDAR to detect obstacles at head and shoulder levels, and Agiga‘s innovative glasses, which integrate AI to describe scenes and connect with apps like Be My Eyes. He also discusses Speakaboo and Orion apps, both offering unique features like instant image descriptions and the ability to identify specific text or objects in real time.

Among the standout technologies was the Lotus Smart Home System, which eliminates the need for rewiring by using infrared-equipped rings and magnetic switch covers for controlling lights. Another highlight was PocketDot, an ultra-portable 8-cell Braille display with MagSafe compatibility, ideal for notifications and quick readings.
