Feel the Memories: 3D Printing Photos for the Blind

Robert Newman of CavCo reveals an innovative AI-driven software that turns personal photos into 3D tactile art—empowering blind users to “feel” memories like never before.

Known for designing candy molds and coins, CavCo is now using its bas-relief modeling software to help blind users convert images of loved ones, architecture, or landscapes into 3D prints. Robert shares the personal inspiration behind the pivot—his sister’s disability—and how AI now enables photo elevation modeling with surprising accuracy.

CavCo is showcasing this work at an exhibition called Touch Beyond Vision, featuring tactile interpretations of British landmarks and sports personalities. The long-term goal is to make the software consumer-friendly and empower blind users to create and print these tactile memories from home.
