Changing Your AirTag Batteries

In this episode of Double Tap, Steven Scott and Shaun Preece are joined by Jenine Stanley, who provides a step-by-step guide on how to change the battery in an Apple AirTag. Using her Meta Ray-Ban glasses, Jenine demonstrates each step in real-time, beginning with holding the AirTag with the back facing outward. She explains, “The back has a slightly textured, brushed finish and is slightly smaller than the AirTag.” Jenine uses a rotor gesture with her thumbs, pushing down and twisting counterclockwise to release the back cover.

After removing the cover, she takes out the old battery and describes the new one: “One side of the battery has that brushed finish, and the other side is smooth. We want to put the brushed side down.” Jenine then places the new battery into the AirTag, ensuring the correct orientation. She secures the back cover by pressing down and turning clockwise, noting, “You’re going to do a rotor gesture clockwise to close it, counterclockwise to open it, with a slight push down.”

This hands-on demo highlights how visually impaired users can maintain their Apple AirTags independently, using simple tactile methods. The episode offers clear instructions for anyone looking to replace their AirTag battery with confidence. For more information on accessible technology, visit apple.com/airtag.
