BiPed Wearable Gets New Updates

In this episode of Double Tap, Steven Scott and Shaun Preece welcome Maël Fabien from BiPed to discuss the latest updates to their wearable navigation device, now rebranded as NOA. Maël explains the rebranding: “We added AI features for visual descriptions, making it clear that this is more than just obstacle avoidance and GPS.” The NOA device, worn on the shoulders, now includes physical buttons for on-the-go control without needing a smartphone in hand.

Maël highlights the two usage modes—guide dog mode and white cane mode—both offering 170-degree camera coverage for obstacle detection with customizable audio feedback. “We mute obstacles your cane or guide dog would detect, focusing on what they might miss,” he says. NOA also introduces a replay button for missed audio instructions and supports real-time 3D sound navigation. “We use bone conduction headphones for audio cues, ensuring users can avoid obstacles without being overwhelmed.”

The new NOA Chat feature allows users to send images and videos via WhatsApp for AI-generated descriptions. Maël describes it as “a free phone number you add to WhatsApp, where you can send pictures and get back a description in 5-7 seconds.” Users can ask follow-up questions via voice notes, making it highly accessible. Noah is priced at $4,950 USD (£3,800) with subscription options available through partners like Sight & Sound. Learn more at biped.ai.
