Be My Eyes Winter Update Brings New Features

Jesper Henriksen, CTO of Be My Eyes, tells Double Tap about their new Winter 2025 update, which enhances usability, performance, and data control for users. Jesper shares that the update incorporates feedback from the community, introducing higher resolution video calls: “All our calls are now in 1080p HD, allowing volunteers and service agents to see finer details and provide more accurate assistance.”

Another key feature is the new auto read aloud option. Jesper explains, “This means Be My Eye responses will be read out automatically, even if you’re not using a screen reader,” addressing a much-requested feature from low vision users. The app now also allows image saving: “Photos taken in the app, along with the description generated by Be My Eye, can now be saved permanently to the camera roll on your phone.” Additionally, a new history feature lets users refer back to previous chat sessions, share or unshare them, and save sessions indefinitely.

For Apple users, the update introduces custom iOS shortcuts for quick voice commands like “read this with Be My Eyes” and “ask Be My Eyes,” integrating Siri for hands-free use. Jesper also highlights the new 30-day data retention policy: “Images and their chat descriptions will be automatically deleted after 30 days, unless you choose to save them.” Users now have more transparent data controls, including an opt-out option for AI training via a simple switch in the app.

The Winter 2025 update marks the 10th anniversary of Be My Eyes, reaffirming its commitment to accessibility and user empowerment. All features discussed are available now or will roll out later this month. Learn more at bemyeyes.com.
