AI-Powered Recipe App Cookie Launches with Hands-Free Cooking for Blind Users
Dario Marmer, creator of the Cookie app, has announced the launch of an AI-powered recipe tool designed to make cooking more accessible. The app enables users to upload any online recipe and navigate it entirely through voice commands, reducing the need to handle devices while cooking.
Cookie allows users to paste a recipe link or search for one directly in the app, after which they can ask questions such as “Read me instruction two” or “How much sugar do I need?” The app then provides step-by-step guidance. It also features AI-assisted substitutions for missing ingredients.
“Cookie answers any cooking question based on the recipe you’re following,” said Dario. “If you’ve run out of maple syrup, it can suggest a substitute instantly.”
The app began as a personal project before Dario realised its potential for blind and partially sighted users. After visiting the Carroll Centre for the Blind and experiencing an accessible kitchen, he adapted Cookie for hands-free use with VoiceOver and simple voice prompts.
Cookie is currently available on iOS and offers a free tier covering all core features. Optional AI-powered features, such as ingredient substitutions, are available via a subscription of $2.99 per month or $29.99 per year, primarily to offset AI costs.
Dario confirmed that the app’s recipe scraper works with most online formats, and users can report any compatibility issues directly in the app for future updates.
