Lynn Jensen Releases Guide to Confident Travel for Blind and Low Vision Travellers

Lynn Jensen, a vision rehabilitation specialist and author, has launched Best Kept Secrets for Travellers with Sight Loss, a comprehensive guide aimed at helping blind and low vision people travel with confidence. Speaking on the Double Tap podcast, Jensen confirmed the book offers practical strategies for planning trips, building mobility skills, and overcoming travel anxiety.

Jensen, who lost her sight suddenly in 1997, draws on nearly three decades of personal experience and 24 years working in vision rehabilitation. Her new book provides step‑by‑step advice for travelling independently, whether locally or abroad, with a focus on preparation, safety, and using available accessibility resources.

“Preparation is key,” Jensen said. “I tell my clients to start small—book a hotel in your own city, explore like a tourist, and learn what works before expanding your travel plans.”

The book covers topics including navigating public transport, using guide dogs and white canes, and leveraging technology such as smartphone navigation apps and sighted assistance services. Jensen also shares tips for handling unexpected challenges while travelling, encouraging readers to “prepare for the worst, hope for the best.”

Practical guidance is supplemented with advice for families, travel companions, and professionals in the tourism industry. The book is available in multiple formats including large print, accessible e‑book, and DAISY audio to ensure broad accessibility.
